Didn't say what type of tv or brand, but i'll make a guess here : you just got a LCD and it's not a brandname. Check all your cables and connection first and you need to remember that a hdtv can't make a standard signal look better. You need to have a HD source in order to get the best picture. A hdtv has a minumum resolution of 720p and the standard cable can only produce 480i. After receiving the signal your hdtv has to scale the 480i to 720p, that's why it will look worse. Some hdtv wil have a better scaler. Get a LCD from Samsung,Panasonic,Sharp,Olevia,Vizio,Westinghouse or Sony.

the hot Samsung liquid crystal show variety is staggering, relatively the 40" LE40R74BD. evaluating this ingredient via ingredient with a popular 40 two" plasma will practice you the way good the liquid crystal show is. Samsung are the worlds best liquid crystal show video show producer, and those television's incorporate their modern liquid crystal show technologies meaning an exceedingly severe assessment ratio 5000:a million. This whilst mixed with severe resultion pics and severe refresh fee supplies a crisp vivid life like photograph. If i replaced into going for a television of this length, it fairly is the single i'd %.!

what type of cabling are you using the carry the video. that is important. also HDready doesn't mean much, thats not to say it is HD TV, just that if you had an HD receiver then it would be able to display the signal.
