In my opinion, at the current rate in which languages appear to be growing and gaining popularity among business and other industries, this is the order from the ones you gave.

1. Portuguese
2. Japanese
3. Chinese
4. French
5. German
6. Korean
7. Russian

Though, unless you already know them, the top three languages an Economy major should know are English, Spanish, and Hindu.

i'd say it depends on what part of the world you're planning on working in. English and Spanish are usually enough, since most countries teach English as a second language.

So, for example, if you're planning on working with Russia, most Russians speak English, however, it wouldn't hurt to learn the native language of whatever country you're working in, or dealing with the most. Often, knowing a native language will help you gain the respect of the people from that particular country.

1. french (2nd most used language among politicians in Brussels
(the capital of EU) and widely used in Africa)
2. german (major native language in europe, about 120 million
native speakers, germany still most exporting nation in the
world)
3. Japanese (for economical reasons mainly, plus a good basis
for chinese)
4. russian (useful in all of eastern europe, plus russia is gaining
influence due to its ressources (germany imports more than
50% of its gas and oil from russia)
5. chinese (might become more important in future, but thats
partly speculative, China has huge problems)
6. Portuguese (for Brazil, mostly)
7. Korean (only useful in Korea, and they teach English at some
schools even in North Korea anyway (Yes, they really do).
