They are oxides of Sulfur and oxides of Nitrogen. I forget the nitrogen process but the sulfur goes like this.
Sulfur is emitted from combustion of sulfur bearing fuels, and reacts with oxygen to form sulfur dioxide. This in turn reacts with oxygen to form sulfur trioxide. Surfur trioxide reacts with water to form sulfuric acid H2SO4. Sulfuric acid mixes with the water forming acid rain.

Acid rain is caused when oxides of sulphur and nitrogen in the air dissolve in the water that forms the raindrops.
