you keep on finding factors that can be multiplyed to form the # on the top of it. once you get to prime #'s you stop and multiply all the prime #'s
Here's another example:

Another:

5 9
/ \
3 3
I stopped @ 5, 3, 3 because they are prime #'s Then I multiply 5, 3, and 3 to get the answer( GCF, i think)

you just find the prime factors of a number
2 times 2 times 2 times 2 is the prime factorization of 16
