Had Gallbladder removed Jan. 2, 2007 and the attacks did not go away. Found out I had stones still in my bile duct & had a ERCP 4 days ago and now having pains. I have a aching pain under my right rib. Sometimes I have severe pains that feel like contractions in the same spot. It takes my breath away when it happens. I called the doctor today and he told me not to come in. He said if I start vomiting to go to the ER. Please help.

pancreas is a retroperitoneal organ, that means that your back is the one thats going to feel pain. If your doctor told you that, then he knows your condition, so he knows what he's telling you, if you are not satisfied with his response, go to another doctor, to see a second opinion.

I had pancreatitis for 10 years. It nearly killed me. I had my pancreas removed in September. The pancreas is anatomically located on the rt side of the abdomen ( for those who don't know)and people have pain there or in their back on the rt side. Pancreatitis is terribly painful and there is nothing you can do for it at home other than take the meds the Dr. gives you. You need to have blood work done, amalyse and lipase are the things they test for these levels start returning normal within 12 hours of elevation ( or pain). The pain you spoke of sounds familiar to me. If it becomes more than you can stand go to the hosptial. You didn't mention if during the ERCP they got the stones. If they didn't you could have an obstruction of the duct leading from your liver to your pancreas or from your pancreas leading to your small bowel. Either way very PAINFUL. They can stent these areas to hold them open if they can't scope out the stones. You need to see a physician. Pancreatitis is very hard to treat, I hope this is not it.
