Because Rats carry diseases, you might want to take the dog and the rat carcas to the vet.
Chances are, though, your dog will be alright.
You could brush his teeth like you normally do, that will be sufficient.
Just remember that out in the wild, that's what dogs do for food! So, what your dog did is very natural!

If you have no open wounds, and the dog doesn't lick you in the face, then you should not get rabies. However, to make sure: 1. Put the possum in a plastic bag. 2. Take the dog and possum to the Vet. 3. Explain the situation to the Vet, and he will test as needed. 4. If the dog has rabies shots (legally it is required), the dog should be OK. 5. If the possum has rabies, then the county health dept needs to know.

Take him to the vet if you're that concerned. Otherwise, lots of doggie treats ought to get rid of the rat smell. Yuck.

unless there is signs that your dog was bitten there is no reason to go to the vet UNLESS IT IS NOT CURRENT ON VACINES. dogs mouths are actually three times cleaner than a humans mouth so go to your local vet and get a greenie bone, it has natural disinfectants.

You're kidding, right? You do know dogs eat their own feces. If cats can live off mice in the wild, than one little rat is not going to kill your dog. He'll be fine. Don't worry your pretty little head over it.

Just a note on a previous answer...Never use human toothpaste on your dog. The fluoride in human toothpaste is not good for your dog to ingest.
