It ranks there with expressions like "Fine!" or "I don't want to talk about it!" People who "communicate" using this banter have abdicated the use of those organs on the side of their head and should offer their noses as juice squeezers.
What your girlfriend means is "**** you and anyone who looks like you."
Well WHATEVER you said, really made an impression and exuded her heartwarming charm.

When your girlfriend says whatever to you it could mean 3 things.
1: It could mean she is not interested or doesn't care
2:She wasn't paying attention
3:She is to caught up in day dreaming about something or SOMEONE

She doesn't mean it, she really wants you to give in to her. Say you had plans with her, and then you called her up and broke them off because you promised your boys you'd go out with them, and she says.. 'whatever.' She's obviously mad, and she obviously cares, but she is playing it off by saying whatever. Or say you asked her what she wanted to eat, and you gave her choices, but she just replied to you, 'whatever you want to eat.' Really, she wants something in particular, but she doesn't want to choose something, knowing you wouldn't want it.

i always say whatever when i don't want to think about something. its usually at the end of the day or in the morning, and im tired

She's mad at you, and it actually does matter, but she doesn't want to show that it does, so she uses "Whatever" to have you believe that it's no big deal but it actually is.
