I have a great female doxy who was easy to train.I had a crate when I brought her home. She was 9 weeks old. I took her out to potty every few hours when I was home. I gave her a small treat and alot of praise when she went potty . She had paper in the crate when I was away. She learned quickly to go outside. Lucy is now 9 years and never went in the house. It takes time and patience, but it will pay off in the end.

You mean house-train I assume?

Basically you let it out to the toilet:

1. Every time it wakes up from sleeping.
2. After every meal.
3. After any energetic play.
4. Every 2 hours apart from these times.
5. As soon as you get up in a morning and just before you go to bed at night.

Praise it when it goes to the toilet outside.Despite what some people here will tell you never hit it or push it's face in the mess this will just make it nervous and possibly snappy with you.If it starts to go inside just say 'NO' in a harsh and loud voice and take it out then praise it as usual when it goes outside.

It will ask to go out during the day when it wants to after a month or so of this training but you can't expect a puppy to be dry all night till it's 6 months old as it just won't have a strong enough bladder till then.

Clean up any accidents with a strong smelling disinfectant or else it will keep going in the same spot.

Main thing to remember is an 8 week old pup has little more bowel and bladder control than a young human baby.

First, you need a lot of patience... A puppy has to pee 5-15 min. after he wakes up in the morning, after he eats or drinks, and after active play. So every time you he wakes up in the morning take him outside immediately (with his leash so he doesn't get distracted) and continue to do that during the day after those activities (or when you see him sniffing the floor in circles) and choose a word to say to him when you take him outside, like "go potty" or potty outside" and that will help him label the action. This will eventually become a routine and he will automatically walk to the door when he has to go. Oh! be sure when you feed him you only leave the food for 15-20 minutes, then take it away. If he doesn't eat, well then he just wasn't hungry. Don't leave it out all day because then you won't be able to monitor the times he poops and it will make potty training 10X's more difficult. It sounds pretty easy but it takes a lot of work and patience. If you start now you will be so happy you did and you will be able to take him anywhere without stressing if he's going to pee where he shouldn't. I hope this helps.

Make a big deal out of the whole ordeal. I started out with my first puppy at six weeks. He was kept in a TV box [big] with a dog house attached in the living room. I lined the box with paper and kept him in there when I was busy, Then I let him out and put paper by the door just in case. After we got to be buddies I took him out when ever I thought he had to go. He never went in the house, not once. He got praise and treats for his good behavior. Then there are the toys, puppies need toys when you are gone. I also regulate the water intake of my pets. After a while they will learn your pattern and adapt to your schedule.
