It's pretty much my life goal to eventually join the Peace Corps and travel around the world helping people. I would really enjoy it. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about it or if you've been in the Peace Corps before and you have experiences to share?

I'm 17 and I'm thinking about going to college for Medical Transcription.

My best friend is in the Peace Corps right now, actually. Her parents met while they were both volunteering in Ethiopia in the PC. She's in Fiji, been there since last June, and she loves it! She misses home, but like you, she always felt like this was something she was meant to do. She had some trouble getting in because of a few small health concerns, the Peace Corps is really careful about who they send, but she's there now and enjoying every moment of it. She'll be there for another year and a half, and it's really difficult being without her, but I know that she'll be a better person for this experience.

Good luck!

I was a PCV 30 years ago. It was the high point of my life.

has some stories. At the bottom of that page is a link to the PCV Web ring, which had 48 other PCV sites last time I looked.

You didn't mention your age. If you haven't gone to college yet, you might think about majoring in a specific skill. Ask a recruiter. Civil Engineering with an emphasis on water would be a great major. So would teaching English as a foreign language.

Most PCVs go to just one place. I was in Sarawak, on the island of Borneo, for three months of training and two years of service.
