I have a good friend that was drugged and raped in 2004, she was drugged using GHB and/or ecstacy. She has since been having adverse reaction to PTSD meds like topamax, lexapro, etc. Can date rape drugs cause a chemical imbalance in the brain and what can she do to deal with the PTSD without having the adverse reactions?

Hello Wayne...what a good question!!!!!!!....I do think drugs can cause a chemical imbalance in the brain. When I was 18 years old I was drugged with LSD. Since then a depression developed. My brain neurotrasmiters were affected. And after 15 years I still have the effects.
I think your friend should keep on trying medicines, till she finds the right ones. I wish your friend the best! Argentox2@yahoo.com

Yes Ecstacy does have a tramatic effect on brain chemistry. Even after taking it just one time in some cases. Its known to lead to the developement of anxiety disorders. To deal with PTSD its imparative to work that out with her Doctors. If some meds dont work they can switch to another and so on. She has to tell her Docs whats she is feeling in all cases. God Bless you for being a good friend.

that drug works on the brain chemicals period.
the long term affect on the chemicals is not well known but it is known that damage does take place every time it is used.
so long as the medical doctor knows that she had this used on her then he should be able to make a well informed call as to what is best to help her.

Odds are the one time she was given it, no but after repeated use yes it can, those reactions to prescription drugs are just side effects of those drugs or reactions from something else.

Thats pretty dark. Has your friend had a sexual assault check up? If not she needs to go get one. I would also suggest therapy. But back to the issue. I would have some tests done to find out. I'm not quite sure which tests she needs, but she should go to the local clinic and express her concerns about that situation.
