A valid Green Card, alone, is acceptable at the land border to get back into the US. It is not acceptable as a document to go into Mexico, depending on how far from the US/Mexico land border you travel, and how long you intend to stay. You are advised to carry proof of your citizenship.

You need your Mexican passport and your green card also. The laws change now and when you enter to Mexico you have to show them your Mexican passport. And when you return to the United States you have to show them both, the green card and your passport. Since January 23. 2007 it is a requirement that every citizen on the United States, Mexico and Canada that have a valid passport. And the answer to your question is YES. You need a valid Mexican passport. Good luck and enjoy your trip!!

No. Go to Mexico. You do not come back into the US however without a passport. Once you leave - bye bye - you are now a Mexican citizen if you dont have your passport on you.

uh...huh? you have a US greencard? or...a mexican greencard? i don't get it. if you have a US greencard, you should still be using the passport from your home country. if you are entering mexico via international bridge, you don't need a passport, just a birth certificate, and $17 for the tourist visa.
