Pro? Con? better than XP? Worse than XP? leaps and bounds over XP? ground into the mud by XP? Worth the price? Easier to use? better features? new cool features? I know you have to have A LOT of memory to use vista.

I have been playing with it for several weeks now. for the average current user, i would stay with xp for another 6 months, then see whats going on, since the program is so new, there will be a number of critical bug fixes. second, not all xp software will run with vista, so alot of the software houses still have some tweaking to do. next are drivers, vista is very picky, and some older equipment may not have signed vista drivers ready or ever have them. memory is an issue, on my desktop machine, it sucked up 1gb at boot up, but played very nicely with the apps that i was using. I am currently running it on a test machine with 3 other operating systems and it does ok. it will dual boot, but you have to understand that once you install it, it changes the master boot record to its own format. can cause troubles if you pull it off later. your not going to get all the neat glassy effects without a good graphics card with 256mb of memory, and you don't get the Aero effects unless you are running ultimate, or one of the premium versions, plain home and business do not have that option.

from a security standpoint, the fact that you may be an adminstrator of the machine does not mean your usercode will act as an adminstrator without requesting the override, good for virus protection, lousy when you are trying to do alot of changes on your machine. there is peer to peer networking, but I think that is going to cause trouble if people are not aware of who they are connected to and who those people are connected to. menus are very different, you can search and run commnads from almost anywhere. widgets are pretty lame, the multimedia features are not much better than xp.

with that all in mind, if you are getting a new computer, make sure you have 2gb of memory, and at least a graphics card that supports direct 9 and 256mb of video memory. a fast disk is also going to be important.

and if you are not sure, buy your computer without an os, you can do that at dell and other internet shops, and then buy your own os, and then try them out.

Untested, and as a result will be problematic for the foreseeable future. Wait at least until service pack 1 is issued before purchasing.

Too many problems. Just type "vista problems" in the search for questions box above.

My friend just bought a Vista laptop, and I was playing chess on it, and it crashed. I'm not even that great a chess player.
