lower back is not the best place for a tattoo if you can't take pain, the skin is very sensitive there. For me, it was a 6-7, where my shoulder tatt was only about a 2 ( 1 being no pain, right?) Tanning can cause it to fade, you shouldn't do that for the first 2 weeks, to let it heal.
Ps: you can get a really girly tattoo, like a heart or something. you'll only be less girly if you get a butch design!

My first tattoo was on my lower back. The pain was NO WHERE near as bad as I was expecting, it was more annoying than painful. It felt like a cat scratching a sunburn. It was nothing excrutiating. If you have your parents permission I think you should go for it! My lower back tattoo is about 8 inches long and 6 inches tall and took about 2 hrs. In the end, my foot falling asleep from sitting in the chair for so long was more painful than the tattoo. As far as what you should get, pick something that is special to you. Get some ideas in your head then you can go to an artist and give them an idea of what you want. Or you could just tell them that you want something unique and girly and let them draw up something for you. The color will fade if you tan alot. It helps a lot to put sunscreen on before you tan, or cover it with a towel.

~Good Luck!

Okay first of all
in most states you are not old enough to get a tattoo...gotta be 18.
second, tanning is bad for a tattoo, it will end up washed out and lose all color, so you will be paying money for something that you will damage in the long run.

Third - tattooing is not ungirly, just make sure (when you are old enough to do it) that you pick a design that expreses you, looks good on your body and is girly too. I wanted black and grey wind...and my artist made it very soft and feminine...not harsh and dark, it looks perfect and beautiful. Put LOTS of thought into your design, or it will end up being covered, which means more money - more pain and bigger tatto to cover the old tattoo

Fourth - the pain is tolerable...personally i think a bikini wax hurts more...but I have a high pain tolerance (three children, drug free childbirth)...if you were scrap a knife's edge back in forth (not cutting way) and keep scratching, or your fingernail, scratch the same stop over and over until its raw...its that kinda pain, bareable but it still hurts.

Honestly, wait on the tattoo for a while, if only because there are issues of legality involved here. I like the idea of waiting until 18 as a gift to oneself for entering legal adulthood. Plus, as I mentioned in another answer, if your parents know you want something before 18 but wait until 18 to get it, you might be able to guilt them into covering it. :)

Tanning is bad for skin, regardless of tattoos. Take a nice photo and put it in the sun. Now, imagine it hurt to get the photo, took a couple of hours to do & cost at least $100. Now call that photo a 'tattoo'.

Others can answer to the pain issue, since I don't have experience in that area. Mine have been all back, shoulders & arms (so far).

Do not get a tattoo unless you are sure about what you want, 100%. It is painful, I'd say almost as bad as getting your belly button peirced over and over for an hour straight... although my belly button piercing didn't really hurt...

Also, tanning a lot is bad for your skin regardless. But, it can cause your tattoo to fade, bleed out (lines blurr, etc.), and even scab. If you do get a tattoo, always apply a strong SPF over it before tanning.

ok if your cried for a belly ring than to you i would say a tattoo s an 11 on the pain scale at leeast. especially on the lower back near the spine area. You only need to be touched where they are doing the tattoo. I think tatts are girly if you want them to be you can get something feminine like a flower or a heart but i will say this it is a common fact to most guys that a girl with atattoo on the lower middle back is easy. its on wedding crashers for heavens sake :)

Dude,u r way to whiny to get a tattoo.Sorry,if you think that's harsh but the truth hurts(and you can't take pain)Go to the store and put 50 cents in the machine, turn the knob and get a "lick and stick"tattoo. You'll probably be able to stand this, lol. You can chane it often, and you won't regret it or pass out in the tattoo shop.Have you ever went into a tattoo shop and watched someone get a tatt in person?Try it then you'll realize it's not for you.I love tattoos and body piercings and don't give a crap what others think! If your so into looks then u probably won't enjoy tatts.Tattoos are expressions of yourself, and you care what others think to much now!Remember what you get now will be with u a long time, and u probably change yourself to be"POPULAR",when u grow up maybe get a tattoo then.

Sorry, but if your main concern is other people not seeing you as "Girly" anymore because you have a tattoo, you shouldn't get one. It kinda sounds like you only want one to be cool. Wait til youre older, and you can get one because it has meaning to you...not because its "cute". If you cried your eyes out when you got your belly button pierced, then yeah, you'll cry during a tattoo. A piercing is one poke and youre done....a tattoo is being stabbed by a needle thousands of times. Yeah, it hurts.

Please , wait. You dont sound like the kind of person who'll get a tattoo now, and still like it in 20 years.

the lower back area is pretty sensitive mine didn't feel good, but that's going to differ from person to person. As far as the tanning goes no its not a good idea with tattoo's unless you plan on putting out extra money to touch it up, tanning will fade the tattoo. I have a rose with tribal art in that area I am partial to flowers when it comes to my tattoo's. Girly??? tattoo's aren't going to change whether or not you are girly.

if you don't even know what you want then you shouldn't get a tattoo yet. also if you aren't sure that you even want a tattoo (it doesn't sound like you're sure) then you shouldn't. tattoos are so much more permanent than piercings. they do hurt. it all depends on where you get the tattoo and how well you tolerate pain. also tanning is very very very bad for your tattoo. you should keep your tattoo out of the sun as much as possible. tanning is bad for your skin in general and should be avoided at all costs. i promise when you are older and you look 20 years older than you really are you'll wish you hadn't spent so much time in the sun. also touchups depend on how well you take care of your tattoo and how often it's in the sun as well as how good your tattoo artist is. i think i covered it all...
