It all has to do with the weight of the fish (or insect). Sticky paper is to heavy. A fly fights much better with a tiny hook in it's mouth than a big piece of sticky paper attached to it's body. Just wait till you hook one in the wing. Talk about a fight!

Fishermen are notoriously known to be liars and not very smart but as soon as they read this[ if they can read] you can bet there will be a run on "sticky paper" so you see by posting a very interesting question you have enlightened all the fishermen in the world. because if sticky paper hits the water, it is no longer sticky. Try it, put it in water, and find out that it is not sticky when wet.

well cuz thats not right, with a hook you can put it back....with sticky paper all its scales are riped off so you cant put it back.
hooks are the best way to go
