It seem like there is not a lot of skill required to caddie, its like all they do is carry clubs around. seems like they get paid a lot for this. I've heard people say that they suggest which clubs to use and that sort of thing but i would think that a pro golfer would have worked it out for himself right? I could be wrong? Not being a golfer myself was quite curious.

You mentioned professional golf, so I guess you're asking about caddies for pro golfers.

A caddie doesn't necessarily have a lot of physical skill to be a good caddie, since he/she basically just carries the clubs, takes them out, puts them back, wipes them down, etc. But a caddie will have knowledge of how a golf course is playing (wind direction, how many yards to the flag from certain landmarks, etc.) A caddie may also help the golfer read greens at times and help the golfer figure out the break of his/her putt. Depending on the golfer, a caddie will sometimes even try to settle a player down after a bad shot, or motivate him/her...

A caddie does suggest what clubs to use.. Caddies also walk the course with their golfer before the events and have a yardage cards to help determine what club to use. Caddied watch their golfers during range time so they know how far the golfer can hit each club. Caddies get between 10 and 15 percent of a golfers winnings. Hope this helps.

A caddie at the local country club is just carrying the clubs, but at the pro level it is different. A caddie is instrumental to some golfers. The can offer a view of the mechanics of the golfer. They impart the distance and layout of the course. Some golfers are more dependents than others on their caddies.

Caddies provide a great service, especially to the pros. They act like a coach. A caddy should know the actual distance of all the holes and be able to read greens. They recomend clubs and strategy. A caddy is the golfer's right-hand man, and completely necessary in the pros.
