An agnostic believes in a higher being, but aren't real sure what their particular God is... The people in Alcoholics Anonymous refer to it as "a higher power", but don't necessarily refer to God so that they are politically correct for anyone's religious. Actually, it's a Chicken-Sh.. person's way of dealing with their fear of going to hell just in case there is a hell. They feel that if they believe in something, it will protect them from eternal damnation. They don't want to explore or make a committment, just believe in something to cover their butts for when their time comes.

Agnostic comes from a Greek word that means "not knowing." A person who is agnostic is one who may believe that there is some supreme being or unifying spirit, but believes that this cannot be proven conclusively.

I personally enjoy being an agnostic because being uncertain allows me to investigate a great many ideas and learn much more than I suspect I would if I were of the opinion that what I believe was absolutely, unshakably correct.

It means that you're unsure if there is a God or not. Some agnostics don't know, some don't care. The roots are 'a' - prefix meaning not - and 'gnostic' from the Greek for knowledge, usually of a spiritual kind. It basically means that the person believes they can't for certain know if God exists or not.

Agnosticism is the concept that the existence or non existence of a higher power aka god is unknowable. An Agnostic is some body who follows the concepts of Agnosticism.

Someone just asked this like 10 seconds ago.

I consider myself agnostic because I don't even really care if there is a God. I don't know, I don't care, there are more imnportant things to worry about.

If there is a God, he is as Kierkegaard said..wholly other..and thus impossible to fathom by us anyway. In that case...I live the way i think I should. I let the chips fall where they may.

I think i'm agnostic because i'm not to sure if there is a god. Atheists believe in nothing. Religious people believe in something. But i don't know what to believe. I'm the type of person that has to see something to believe in it and since i have never seen god and there isn't really that much proof i'm not sure whether or not he exists.

I like this definition from the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

"a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god"

Hope this helps.

It means that you're sitting on the fence because you can't decide between religion and atheism.

On a side note, no atheist is entirely atheist, we're all agnostic because there's no way to prove that God doesn't exist but there's no way to prove that God does exist.

The term is found in the Greek New Testament. It is commonly translated "ignorant." The formal statement of their conviction is that it is impossible to KNOW if there is a god or not.
