Sounds like it's Agorophobia. My mom has it. She went to a psychiatrist, took Xanax and she's just had to gradually try small steps.

Through counseling, she has been able to pinpoint a possible cause of this.

Seek counseling at least...it can't hurt.

You're not going mad you have anxiety attacks for a reason (even though you may not know what the reason is). The only meds you should take are to relive the physical symptoms of the anxiety attacks - beta blockers for example to keep your heart rate down. Meds for mental health however are not ideal for anxiety sufferers as they do not get to the root of the problem and in fact only prolong the condition because they numb you out. Once you have had an attack your subconscious mind will 'learn' to fear the situation in which it happened and you need to 'unlearn' this very natural reaction - that's the hard bit and you will need professional help for this. A cognitive behavioural psychologist is ideal - this is their field so make an appointment and get your life back. It won;t be overnight but you will be able to get your life back. In the meantime coax yourself out of your comfort zone even if its only for 5 mins a day to try and 'teach' your subconscious that this regular event doesn't harm you - ie walk through a bus station or airport, just stroll on through and out again then allow time to reflect and praise yourself.

You should probably see your doctor to find out if you need a higher dose of meds or a different kind. What usually comforts me when I am afraid of going out is going somewhere with friends I trust, then I become more relaxed and the anxiety lessens.

I would suggest you see a doctor (possibly a Naturopath).

If you are serious about reducing/eliminating your anxiety/depression in a safe and natural way then the following article is for you;

It also contains a list of Natural Remedies

No worries, nothing is for sale - just great info;)

I suggest you tell your doctor that your symptoms are getting worse. Maybe you need to increase your dosage or change medication. Have you tried therapy in addition to medication? Perhaps you should. Good luck.
