Upon being selected as a best answer, I was somewhat disappointed by the questioner's additional comments to my answer. While I definitely admire and appreciate his honesty in stating why he feels the way he does, it has prompted me to thinking.

Mostly everyone feels that a Christian's answers are too pat, too standardized, etc. etc. I believe the reason for that is because God is unchanging. The answers don't change because He doesn't, either. Unlike the things of the world which are constantly in a state of flux, God is constant. His laws are constant and so is His love. Most of us feel God has to change to meet societal demands, but that's just not so. If God changed all the time, how could we begin to trust or depend on Him? We couldn't.

Too simplistic? Your input, please.

Christianity is based upon a Bible. Our world has changed, christianity has not. Some of the newer "more progressive" (in some people's opinions) mega-churches have tried to change religion to suit our lifestyle, but that isn't what Christianity is. It is very standardized and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I completely agree with what you have said. If someone is going to make a committment, they have to make changes to follow their faith and beliefs. A committment doesn't mean accepting part of it and not accepting other parts when it doesn't suit someone's wants.

I don't know about too simplistic. I do think it is a bit disrespectful of God. God never changes?
So in your view God has lived for all eternity, yet never developed any thoughts or different views from the first? The very first moment that God existed in eternity is the only action of God? It would have to be that way for God not to change. No, your own holy book denies that.
Before earth there was nothing. God made everything and now there is a lot of stuff. God changed, before God had nothing to look at and God had made nothing. Now God made something, that is a change. The new testament is a change from the old one. God changes. God's world, that God has put us in to find our way to heaven, is a world that proves, the only constant is change.

> God is constant
No he isn't. He compromised with the Israelites plenty of times in the Old Testament.

> His laws are constant
No they aren't. No one is waving beef bits around or sprinkling blood on a leather seat any more. Jesus was the sacrifice that ended the need for animal sacrifices (according to Christianity).

> so is His love
Are you sure? I haven't seen him around these past 1,970 years. Neither have you.

> If God changed all the time, how could we begin to trust or depend on Him?
It takes faith. Lots of faith. It does take faith. Faith is required.

No, GOD dosen't Change.
But, HE Changes HIS Ways of Doing Things.

Think about This:
Do you Really Think that those Giant Redwood Trees in Ca. Belong on this World?
How about them 200 Foot Pearly Gates on Planet Heaven? Where'd They come from.
Do you Really Think that this is the Only World in this Universe or for that matter, the Only Universe?

Yep, something to Think About.
Ditto.....................

I think the problem some people have with the "unchanging" answer is that it doesn't feel like there is any individualized thought behind it. The too standardized answer gives a feeling of memorized dogma that's recalled and regurgitated on command.

If his laws are constant, why do Christians each shellfish and allow women to be teachers?? The Bible clearly spells out that these are abominations in the eyes of God, according to Leviticus... Jesus clearly says that he came not to break the laws, but to uphold them. So, looks like you HAVE INDEED changed in responses (not you personally, but the religious dogma).

Perhaps many people in USA have also limited their perception of God to their present understanding of God. (See 1 Samuel 16:7, i.e. man sees who, what, when, where, how but God also sees why ).

Can you imagine life if God changed as often as scientific "fact".?
I am so glad I put my faith in God instead of men.
