I have had a prolonged cold this past month, and just when I thought it was going away, I woke up again the other day with a sore throat. It's still sore today, and I have a mild ear ache in my right ear and the sore throat seems to be localized on that side as well. Are these symptoms of an ear infection? If so, why does it affect my throat like this? It's Friday night and I won't be able to see the doctor until Monday at the earliest--is this OK or should I go to the hospital tomorrow, if it's likely to get worse over the next few days?

i went through the exact same thing last april.yes, you should see a doctor asap to see if there can be anything done to cure you, and to see if you have an ear infection or not.

I'm not sure about the other answer however this is my take on it. Ears, throat, body aches, headache... all very common issues with colds and flu's, and some of them can be very stubborn and reoccur frequently. A lot of this is also common with sinus infections (sinusitis), which come in two flavors... acute and chronic. Acute sinusitis comes on very quickly, more severe than chronic sinusitis, but goes away within 3 weeks. Chronic sinusitis can last longer than 2 months, can reoccur every 4 months but isn't as severe as acute sinusitis. I suffer from chronic sinusitis and the only thing that kills it for me when it reoccurs is Drixoral. It's not available in the US anymore (over the counter) but it can be purchased through Amazon and shipped.
