The previous owners or our house painted the bricks around the fireplace and we would like to remove it to reveal the natural brick underneath. How can we accomplish this and make it look nice as well?

My suggested method would be . Cob blasting, some contractors use this method on home exteriors,Similar to sand blasting but they use ground corn cobs as a medium. This takes off paint at a slower rate but the results are better.A mess for sure.check the web for information.Good Luck

Paint soaks deep into brick and you won’t be able to scrape it off. Plus, a wire brush is going to damage the brick. Peel Away®(figure A) is a great product for removing paint from brick and other surfaces. Apply the paste as directed, let it sit for a while then use the paper included and pull off the paste and paint. You may need to use two coats if the paint is old.

Get a product called strypeze made by savogron, it's a paste which works good on a vertical surface and will take your paint off regardless water-based or oil. Comes in quarts or gallon, I'd get a gallon and no it's not expensive, most likely will take a couple coats to achieve the look you want. Depending on how porous your brick are will determine how much will come off meaning every speck. Good luck
