finding it so hard to get any information on my own or any leads to any sites that may help, so would be really grateful ,have tried the obvious like raf sites but still get no where. thanks in advance anita

Try the Salvation Army. They were successful at finding my dad. If you contact them, they may request a fee (about £25) but they will reply eventually. They found my Dad. Unfortunately he had died, but they did find him!

You're probably not adopted, but there is a lot of search resources in the adoption community. Try G's united states registry, they have searchers that help people find, and they probably will help you too. Or forums.adoption.com Good luck!
