I live with my 60 year old mother; dad's been dead many years and she dates occasionally; I came home unexpectedly and she was dressing for a date with the bathroom door open; she's shaved!; she blushed and closed the door; now things between us are awkward - what should I do?

What should you do? Well, for starters, aspire to be as hip and happening as she is when you're 60! I saw my mother naked once...yes in full "down there" glory and I swear to God, I thought she was doing an impersonation of Lincoln!!!!
That you saw her naked and shaved was an accident. It's not like she said "hey, take a look at this!!!!" If things are awkward it's because the issue hasn't been addressed between you and your both so busy walking on proverbial egg shells around each other and that only exacerbates the awkwardness. So change that. Tell her your sorry. Don't even bring up the fact that she shaves--that's irrelevant. Just apologize to her for surprising
her--that doing so wasn't your intention. Then get on with your lives. Get beyond this.
And one more thing Honey, I'd seriously consider moving out and into your own place. You need to be out on your own...I don't care what the circumstances are. Besides, one more situation like this, and I wouldn't be surprised if your mom puts a bell around your neck.

Wow! Um...awakard! U mean "shaved" as in "SHAVED"? She has feelings too, and just wants to gussy up. Older people don't like it when you think of them as different "species"! This is way harder then I think it is, I know that! My little brother see's my mom naked all the time? If that helps....? Well, you can just tell to put it behind you guys. You both knew it was an accident. Just talk to her, say, "Mom. I am sorry for what I did the other night, but we have to put it behind us! This can't break up our relationship right now!" Something like that. Good luck!

Your mother is still swinging at 60? Now that's hot!!!! Shaved and dating.Truth of the matter is you shouldn't be living with your 60 year old mother unless your taking care of her and I doubt if that's the case if she is out dating. Get a life.

well...you can either approach this in one of two ways...you can either drag this incident out into the light and have a good laugh about it...(believe me it is funny)...or you can bury it under the rug and pretend that it never happened. Do you have any siblings because they would love this story lol that would be one way to kind of get it out (maybe not in front of your mother). Either way you decide to handle it I think you need to realize that even though your mom might be 60 it sounds like she has a social life too :P

Your mom is most likely more embarrassed than you are. Just forget about it. What's the big deal?! Maybe she isn't shaved. As women age, some lose body hair. Don't assume and really, it's her business not yours. Move on. Life could be worse.

Don't make a big deal out of it. If she mentions it, discuss it. If you feel like you have to talk about it, mention it to her. I wouldn't mention her personal choices about her appearance. You don't comment on how she does her eyebrows or wears her makeup, so why would you mention other personal areas. I am certan it was very uncomfortable for both of you but I am sure you can get past it. Good luck.
