they are right, churches can help. some have food banks, so if you go weekly, it free's up money for the electric

also the board of public utilites; contact them. ask what programs they have for single parents; heat, gas, electric, and some times the phone have programs.

asking single parent is the best source. ask your single friends wha they have found.

The programs differ depending on where you live, however there is federal assistance available. Fed/state funded programs are based on your income, however inquire before you write this off. If either of your boys are under the age of 5 you can apply for WIC which stands for women, infants, and children. It is a part of the health department and provides either weekly deliveries of free food or vouchers to go buy free food including cereal, milk, cheese, eggs, and juice. You may also apply for food stamps and recieve a card w/ a monthly money amount based on your income and family size, in which you can spend on any food. You may be able to apply for cash benefits as well, to pay your bills. You can go to local food shelves and recieve food in most places, once a week. You can apply at your local salvation army for holiday food baskets and christmas gifts if you cannot afford a hoilday dinner or gifts for your children. There are many places you can go if you are short on a utility bill or rent and they usually help pay your bill once a year. You can find resources for these things by dialing 211. It is a local service line. Please visit your local welfare office or health department for information. There is a place called BROC that helps with food, emergency services and much more-if you are in Vermont if not there's probably a place like this in your area. Go to Department of social welfare in your area, which is usually attached to your state's page for example www.dsw.state.vt.us. Local churches are also very helpful to your local community, simply call the office and ask what kind of assistance they offer to those in need. Many churches have a food shelf, financial assistance, and can even help provide you with free clothing and furniture...whatever you need, someone will help you find it! I hope this has been helpful for you!

I recommend starting at your county social services office. They will have information on where to go for financial assistance, parenting classes, job training and placement, low cost daycare, medical insurance, you name it. Anything you can think of that you need help with, they'll know where to go.

start with cathlic charities. also don't think pride like some call your local welfare division and ask about there daycare programs and any other services they might be able to direct you to. welfar isn't about a check they have many other contacts and programs to assist.
