Ignore what the counter recruiters tell you. They are typically biased and ignorant of what the military has to offer. Yes, there are some definate risks involved with joining, but if you are able to get into the right career path you will never see combat. Yes, the pay is low, but they benefits outweigh a lot of that; free training in high tech fields, free medical and dental while in active service, free housing or off base housing allowance, college tuition upon leaving the service, etc...

Now if you are thinking about joining don't go in blind. Make sure anything the recruiter offers you is backed up in writing. Do not allow them to leave any wiggle room in your contract. Remember if you don't like the deal you can always walk away before you commit.

Enlisting as an 11B is a good start towards SF. You need to be aware that unless my knowledge has changed, he cannot get you a chance at SF. SF is entirely voluntary but you have to have the experience that is gained with a regular unit over time. You will need to be an expert in your related field. It is a bit late now but I hope that you got an Airborne option. You should be given the option at Ft Benning of going through RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Program). Take it. It will help you get assigned to a Ranger unit which will boost your chances of SF being an 11B.

Now, if you don't feel like making the military a career, you can change MOS later on. The more you have in areas such as medic and commo, the better candidate you will be. It will also help with outside employment since there isn't much for Infantry besides working personal security or for a company like Blackwater.

If you did your research on SF, you already know that SF is actually a trainer for insurgents that work for the US. You'll actually be more involved with CIA operatives and operations than fighting. Not to say that they don't do their own share, just not as much patrol work as 82nd or 101st or dirty work at the Rangers. It will also provide you with a gateway to Delta is you so choose.

Anyway you choose, you've make a life altering decision. You in for a lot of hard work, long nights, dangerous work, and lifelong friendships. It is very worthwhile commitment. Good luck and "Infantry Lead the Way".

If being in the Army is something YOU want to do, do not let a bunch of **** house lawyers talk you out of it. You are not enlisting for 20 years you are only enlist for 3 or 4 years, then if it is something you like you can reenlist.

I think being in the Army was one of the best choices I ever made. If you join then good for you, and when you get to deploy and put your training to use just listen to your NCOs they will do everything in their power to bring you home in one piece.

Go Army

Good career choice if you plan on sticking to it...Better chance of an auto accident killing you than a bullet. The Pay isnt so bad when you factor in all the benefits

Hi. If it's what YOU want to do, it is in no way a bad option. Don't let someone else say what they think is right for you. Personally, I think it's an honorable choice...but then again, I'm biased; I'm married to a career military guy!

Nothing wrong with being a career soldier. The problem is however, that even though you have commanders, your ultimate responsibility is to the Constitution of the United States of America. So when an insane commander such as Bush is in power, you are obligated by sworn oath NOT to obey him.

I hope you are aware that funds for injured GI's have been constantly cut under Bush, and there's no sign that trend is turning around.

Are you sure you know why we are Iraq?

Do some more reading.

From your use of the word 'y' I imagine you don't research too much. Change that before you commit your life to a questionable piece of political chicanery.

If you think the American Gov realy cares about it's soldiers read about the USS Liberty. I understand wanting to defend your freedom, and fight for what you belive in but joining up right now won't get you there from here.
