I have only had glasses for about the past four years. I usually only wear my glasses in classes where I have to read off the board, and just recently I started wearing them for reading books and music. Overall my vision is not that bad, about a 20-30 to a 20-40 and it's a slight astigmatism that prompted getting glasses. I usually don't wear my glasses in social situations and outside of class in general, but often I find myself squinting to read menus on restaurant walls and other such print. Should I be wearing my glasses all the time regardless of context, or is it okay to only wear them in situations when I really need them?

wearing your specs or not wearing them will not affect your vision one way or the other.

do what ever the eye doc told you

and if you haven't had your eyes checked in 4 years, it's time to for an exam.

an eye exam not a test at school

Hi There, I can't see far away so use mine for watching T.V., driving, taking my dogs out so I can see what dog/dogs r coming.
But for instance, I can't see the computer with them on, or if I'm
close up washing dishes, dusting, etc. No, I think we wear them
enough don't you? I can't read with them either an dd you seem to know all the situations too so cool take them off when you feel
the need. I have to have a break from them to even for vein sake,
people see us constantly wearing them, like there glued our ears
or totally near blind, and you probably have nice eyes. Take them
off when you want I do.
Take Care,
Summer

I have worn glasses for 45 years. I wear them constantly. Only times I don't wear them: shower, sleeping, swimming. I am quite nearsighted (20-200 or so) without my glasses. I am SO grateful to have them. Also, I always know where they are--on my face. I could never understand how people could lose their glasses. (Of course, if I set them down, I need my glasses to find my glasses, but that's another story.)

so i've only had glasses for about a year and a half and i have contacts because i hate my glasses...but anyway...i am nearsided so when i don't wear contacts or glasses i can't see the board or anything like that.... i just wear my contacts all the time because i don't feel like taking them out when i don't need them for reading....it is really whatever you feel comfortable in... i feel with wearing contacts all of the time....good luck

Going by what your optometrist said to wear them for it sounds like you might as well wear them all the time.

You don’t have to if it does not cause any problems, since your vision is not bad- you ca get away without them a lot of time- just don’t drive without them.
