It is called acid erosion. Caused by eating acid foods such as fruit (especially citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes + grapefruit etc) but also fizzy drinks, or any drink containing sugar for that matter eg tea or coffee with sugar. The sugar is the food for the bacteria in your mouth and with your mouth also bein warm and moist, it is an ideal place for bacteria to breed faster than you can count. This bacteria is the nasty stuff that erodes into your teeth to cause the cavities. So the transparency you are seeing is the start of the decay.
Enamel cannot be remade nor can it be synthesised so the problem unfortunately can't be fixed. You can, however, use toothpastes which have products that coat your tooth (in a good way) so that no further erosion can occur. You need this toothpast otherwise the acids will continue to erode through your teeth which will be exceptionally painful!!!
If you live in the UK try Sensodyne Pronamel
If you live abroad, then try the Arm + Hammer one.
I hope this answers something

It is caused by the enamel of the teeth being eroded by acids in the diet. It can be helped by using an enamel hardening toothpaste like arm and hammer enamel care.

a huge cause of this happening to your teeth is seen in individuals who suffer from bulimia
its because of the bile and acid that they are bringing up from there gut, this type of liguid is so highy acidic so it can break down foods, after long term vomiting it breaks down enamel on the teeth causin gthem ot become transparent, also alot of citric acid fruits do it too, and wines etc

It's that their enamel is being eaten away. It could be things like eating lemons with salt, or other things that are abrasive. Ask them if they eats thing like that.
