I very much doubt that your friend has autism, she may just be used to talking to herself!

It is possible she may have Aspbergers, which is a highly functional form of autism, only recently discovered. But only a trained professional can diagnose this.

Maybe when she talks to herself she doesn't realize someone around her was listening. Or maybe she learned it from someone else in the family who does the same thing. Sometimes talking out loud to oneself can be a coping skill, just something a person does to relieve stress, kind of like a bad habit.
Lots of things can cause hyperactivity, so no idea which one it might be. I occasionally get hyper if I have too many mochas :) :)
If she seems to be functioning fine, then probably there's not much to worry about, unless she wants help.

Your friend may or may not have it - only a doctor can tell that. But it's good that you're concerned for her. Chances are she and her parents probably already know what the problem is. The thing is with autism is that it is VERY common and the symptoms can be so different. With some people it only affects them a little. I would just say not to worry for her, with a friend like you by her side she'll be fine!

Well that diagnosis will take a trained professional but that doesnt sound like autism. How do you know she talks to herself if shes alone? You wouldnt be there. right?

If there is something wrong with her, it doesn't sound like autism. At any rate a lot of people talk to themselves sometimes and are perfectly normal.

I don't think it matters; if she's your friend, a diagnosis of autism or any other disorder shouldn't change that. She'd still be the same person she was before the diagnosis, and that's what is important.
