My cat loves to chew on electrical cords. Is there anything I can do to stop him?

The smelly, icky-tasting products mentioned above work great on some cats. Others are not affected by the products and continue to chew.

Training kitty not to chew requires consistency. If you can stop kitty every single time he starts to chew and redirect his attention, great. However, this requires constant attention to your cat. Are you supposed to follow him around the house? And what do you do when you're not at home?

The solution we came up with is to purchase a cheap corrugated, plastic tubing that fits over the cords and is far less attractive to chewers. We purchased our tubing at Home Depot and I imagine most hardware stores would also carry it. Worked like a charm on our little mischievous chewer.

The link below provides a picture of the type of tubing we used.

Good luck!

In response to the above answers, I wouldn't advise using a spray bottle. Isn't that a bit dangerous considering the cat is chewing on ELECTRICAL cords (probably near power outlets)??

Have you thought about buying it similar toys to play with? Maybe if you buy a bag of pipe cleaners or twist ties and play with the cat a lot it will lose interest in the cords. Even the rings off of milk gallon containers should keep the cat busy and away from the cords.

Whatever you decide, good luck! I hope the cat doesn't get hurt and doesn't hurt your cords.

definite! My cat chews on the elastic strings interior my jackets, and bites paper. She ruined my history undertaking the different day together with her chew marks! i might seize the cat in action, and use the reliable ol' spray bottle trick to get him/her to study that chewing issues isn't ok. Or saying, "No!" loudly and clearly once you seize him/her biting issues. This looks to have worked for many of my cats.

Yes! Clove oil, you can get it in pharmacies or food fragrance shops etc. Cats hate it, if you put some on the cables he will not chew them any more. By the way, it is a lovely home fragrance for humans.

Same kind of product as already mentioned, called Bitter Apple. It tastes extremely bitter to the animal and it deters them from biting or chewing. You can get it at any pet store like Petsmart, Petco, etc.
