Why do those who rate the answers not seem to know the answers?

I am finding that whoever is rating thumbs up on some answers are just as clueless as the wrong answer that was given, why is that and who is rating these answers?

anybody can rate that is level two or higher. Most people just rate the answers they agree with or thumbs down for answers that they think are wrong..No expertise required...sigh

It's probably because a lot of people share the same misconceptions.

Take the thread about whether or not dogs are colorblind as an example. For years, "experts" have said that dogs are color blind, and it's been repeated on TV, in magazines, etc. Therefore, most people think that dogs are colorblind, including many veterinarians, because they don't keep up with newer research - they just repeat the old findings they've heard about.

Same thing with wrong answers. Many people don't know any better, so they go with what they've heard elsewhere and will rate thumbs up on some answers that really are not correct.

I will admit that I usually rate a thumbs up if I agree with the answer. But I do read everything I rate and I try to make an educated decision on what I am agreeing with.

They go by what THEY agree with, they don't care if it's the right answer or not. If they don't agree, then they vote thumbs down. It's immature and annoying, but there's really nothing we can do about it.

ChetCo is right. I logged on to this sight to help others out. I'm finding it difficult with so many young people giving such horrible and dangerous answers. Seems like a popularity contest to me.

People only rate answers to get points. They don't even read the answers.
