You really don't have to buy special clubs or special golf balls in order to put more backspin on your shots. I can put some backspin on my wedges and I play with a cheap set of Wilsons, bought at Sports Authority! True, the tour version of today's wedges are made to produce way more backspin than the wedges of 5 years ago, but you don't NEED custom wedges in order to spin your ball.

All you need to do is to use your 9-iron or higher (better players can spin a 6 or 7-iron as well), and hit down on the ball. Hitting down on the ball ensures that your ball flight is going to be higher, and the key to getting a lot of backspin is to feel as if your club is "pinching" the spot between the ball and the grass. You club must make contact with the ball before making contact with the grass.

Good luck.

It has a lot more to do with the swing than the equipment. But it helps to be using a wedge with square grooves and a soft covered ball like Pro V1 or HX tour. But most importantly you need to compress or 'trap' the ball against the turf by hitting down on it, this will cause the ball to climb up the grooves and start rolling backwards in the air after impact. There's much more to it such as wrist hinge, swing speed and grip.

Back Spin

1.Golf Ball – Do not use a distance ball – Tour soft feel balls are the best
2.lie – Your lie is very important. Tall grass – when grass is between the ball and club it will not spin
3.Grooves – You must keep the grooves clean to spin the ball.
4.Now all you have to do is the ball solid making contact with the ball before you hit the ground.

Back Spin you mean? Use the shot iron and good ball.

I used Pro V1X today and hit a 60 degree Tilelist Spin Mill. Hitting down on the ball very hard and the back spin comes naturally although I hate it when it does that. I mean back spin doesn't do me any good. My ball never gotten into the hole from back spin. I need it to stop mostly. Drop and stop is the thing I need more than back spin.

Try realeasing you wrists upon impact more and come down on the ball a little steeper. (I think you mean back "spin")

Also you can open club face abit to flatten clubhead, but make sure you compinsate on your stance so you don't slice the ball or skull it.

Good Luck!

Are you referring to 'back spin',well the pros have their clubs tweaked and grooved too, to give them that drawback.. You have to grooved and shaved your clubs to get them to do some of that.. And depending how you hit your ball, how you catch it on the swing,etc...Even their golf balls are special to thier specs,, not store bought,fyi..
