Think that somehow they are enlightened when they don't answer the question, and instead engage in an ad hominem attack?
At least answer the question.

And, no, I don't feel threatened or insulted or whatever, but I would like to know.

Because they disagree with the wording/content of the question, or consider themselves above it, or want to get 2 points without actually helping anyone, or they think that this is a message board not a Q&A.

Why do people whine about how others answer their questions when they are posting them on a site for just anyone to answer. If you really wanted an answer, why aren't you asking an expert? Do you really think that you are getting great information from some jerk who hasn't slept in a month because we keep asking funny questions.

Because to some of us this is simply fun, and everyone likes to pull the chain of an overly serious tightly wound conservative. It's like blowing smoke at a non-smoker while he criticizes smoking, it's impolite but to a person watching the interaction it's funny.

Why do some people get off track?
IDK, maybe we think we hear some deeper meaning, and decide that what we want to say is more important.
Happens all the time, even to the best of us.
Sorry for your frustrations.
Please, see if you ever jump from one thought to another and get going.

Because people are people. They come here angry or frustrated (or they get that way after a few questions) and they use epithets when they should use essays.

I am reminded of an old Saturday Night Live catch phrase with which one character would always start his arguments: "Jane, you ignorant [es-el-you-tee]."

I don't believe I have to spell out that last word but Y!A asterisked it out.

I tend to agree with you presently . I will add a comment though; depending on the question for now (to reviewers); it may be more thought provoking to answer the question; with a question.
May you there receive a large pleasant surprise today to God's glory!!!

there are very few questions on this board that are not purposely stacked or pre-loaded. There are also many questions designed only to stir things up and get a reaction. I get very excited when I see a REAL question.

Like YOU??

*laugh* Just being ironic.

Because some people prefer logical fallacies over rational discourse. Or else they have no idea they're doing it or that it's bad form.

Because they don't have a real answer. Or the question doesn't deserve a thought out answer, because the question wasn't thought out to begin with.
