Personal choice.
If you have a short room, laying oblong tiles down in a brickwork fashion where you walk into a room and you look with the long part of the tile, then this stretches the room.
If you put tiles diagonal, this is better for a room that is not square. Kitchen units not running parallel with tiles will show an out-of-square wall.
If you have square tiles, don't do brickwork fashion.

Its a matter of personal choice and the appearance depends on the size and shape of the tiles. Rectangular tiles may look better in a brick or herringbone pattern, square tiles can be straight or diamond. Be aware that any layout other than straightforward "on the square" is likely to cost you more in cut tiles and labour.

It depends on the shape and size of the room, as well as the size of the tile to be installed and personal preference.
Generally, large rooms, anything goes. Galley styled rooms benefit from tiling at 45 degrees as this makes the room look wider. Brick style laying works best with rectangular tiles and can (depending on which way they are laid) can make a room look longer or wider). Normal tiling goes with anything.
Why don't you lay a few tiles out on your room floor (before installation) to see which you prefer?
Hope this helps.

Very, very encouraging. Beautifully done. Still, some part of me insists on looking at the the contrary view: A watch that is stopped shows the correct time more often than one which is fast or slow. But that does not mean it is a more accurate timepiece. Or, "In time of peace, be like the water, offering no resistance. But in time or war, imitate instead the tiger." In other words: Life is endless, eternal. But this life is not.

I like them diagonal the best , but it depends on the shape and size of the room. The brick style hides any uneven areas and is the easiest to lay because yo don't have that many straight lines, the diagonal looks the best I think but it is the hardest.

I've just had my kitchen floor retiled, they were done brick style, and I am so pleased with them. they look much better than they would just square. makes the room look bigger as well. another way to lay them if you want the space to look bigger would be to turn them 45 degrees. But I'm so pleased with the bricked style.

depends on whether it is a professional who is laying them or not , brick pattern is a much quicker and easier pattern to do, it allows for errors within the pattern
