It matters because if you haven't read it yourself, it's more difficult to apply it.

I don't know anybody that believed the Bible before they read it. But let's assume some do for the sake of answering the question... what is the point of reading the newspaper? What is the point of reading a book? What is the point of reading Yahoo answers? To gain knowledge maybe. So the point of reading the Bible is to learn more about yourself, humanity, history, science, theology, Jesus, compassion, mercy, anger, sin, God, and more. Sounds like a pretty decent reason to me...

Be blessed!

Belief is NOT enough in James 2:19 we are told the devil believes and trembles, we must BE-LIVE in Him, and it must be The God of The Bible not taken out of context, you can bow to a false god or idol just as well by making a paper god, you take verses of The Bible you like and ignore the ones around the one your reading and make the verse say what your want without taking it as it is, learn more about God's Word free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com God bless bible questions www.bibleinfo.com email me also wgr88@yahoo.com

because I guarantee you that you don't know everything in the Bible. By reading the Bible Christians get closer to God and gain more knowledge of the biblical past and as a Christian this is stuff you need to know you can't just say something and have no facts to back it up.

cultures and individuals widen the gap between us and the truth as do some spiritual powers )Eph 4 or 5) and when we see this as a contradiction to the obvious truth then we need the Word to re=establish that somewhat destroyed connection with the truth. It therefor serves to help us distinguish the finer points we have been confused about. Thought for the day,, is confusion a mask for sin.

Because the Truth can lead to everlasting life and not all who read or believe in the bible practice the truth.
Even the demons believe and they shudder.

It's like a battery charger. When a person starts to feel run down or depressed, and, feel they just want to give up, they can read the Bible and find encouragement to push forward or it can lift their spirits.

'most people' is relative. i actually don't know anyone who believes in Christianity without having read the Bible...that's just stupid! how are you supposed to grow in your faith without studying it? how can you consider yourself saved without working to know god better and better (which is achieved by reading the bible and praying)?

I agree, because if people read the whole thing, they would probably give up there religion or say that it should not be taken literally.

(then why read it if it is not to be taken literally?)
