In just about anything where you measure something. And, look out, one of the side effects of the digital age is that some instruments give a lot more digits than can be legitimately written down. There was a digital temperature instrrument a few years ago that read down to one millionth of a degree. Accuracy was only four tenths of a degree. Why all the other digits? A lot of cheap resolution, just average accuracy.
