Does her daughter like a 40 year old guy? Chances are no. So, the only way to "pursue the relationship" would be to just be friendly and nice to her and get to know her as a friend, and maybe later as a dad. And, don't tell your girlfriend that you're really into her! It will make her very angry and confused and you'll probably see neither of them ever again! And trying to date a girl who you might be a father to is REALLY gross!
P.S. Most 40 year old guys are married and have a life!

You don't. Imagine what that would do to your head if you were dating a woman and she turned around one day and said I am going to leave you for your eighteen year old son. You would devestate this woman and there is something wrong with the daughter if she is willing to do that to her own mother. It sounds like you are unhappy in your relationship if you are considering such a thing. My best advice to you would be to get out of the relationship and reevaluate what you want in life and in a relationship.
