Really saying "Your views are not valid, I won't listen, You can't make me, and I will pout until I get my way"?
How many people can illustrate in a specific way, how anyone is imposing anything on anyone?
Please do not answer and say that I can't get an abortion because... this is not a theoretical question, but a real and practical one.
The abortion example would be false because you can always go somewhere...
I want real and tangible evidence.

What it is saying is I am not interested in what you have to say because it is you saying it. Or I am not interested because I dislike what you have to say. Or I hate God and not interested in hearing anything about Him.

Imagine you moved to a country where christians were a very definate minority. Lets make up a country, Petoria. Ok, you are in Petoria and the Petorians practice a different religion. They worship the flying spaghetti monster. Ok, not your thing. No big deal. However, many Petorians expect you to also worship their religion. They want you to pray their spaghetti prayers, they want you to come to spaghetti services, they want you to always be reading the spaghetti bible, they want you to always see the spaghetti icons whereever you go. You would be sick of the flying spaghetti monster pretty quick. You would want people to not expect you to follow spaghettism. What if spahettism held views that you were not comfortable with? Like all men must make out with other men every single day. Imagine this was law because in the spaghetti bible, in 1 Noodles 4:13, it said "All men must kisseth of another man before the sun hath climbed into the loft of the firmament". You would hate that. You would try to do everything you can to avoid it. You would probably revolt.

Now imagine that Petoria claims to have religious freedom.

Sorry? the point of your question is...what? Your way is the ONLY way and anyone who does not want your OPINION shoved down their throughts is a childish idiot?
Your views ARE valid to YOU!!!!
the problem with the "others" is that they do not practice their worship the same as you do and it is wrong to belittle others for not believing as you.
I'm a witch. I respect others opinions and religious beliefs. I live by the golden rule.
Perhaps if you are looking for flaws or pointing fingers just remember that when you point...3 of your QWN fingers are pointing right back at YOU!!!!

People use that phrase as an excuse to not have to think logically about what they are saying. I've spoke to many people from many religions and have had numerous "debates" with them and have never found myself ever having to say that phrase - even when they were trying to get me to convert on the spot! The bottom line for me is: nobody can impose thier religion on me. I'm too firm in my own. So I don't have to ask them not to... they can try all they want!!! IMPOSE AWAY!!! :)

Be blessed!

No. That's not what it means.

And no, the abortion example isn't false. You're right, if it's made illegal you can always go somewhere... AND BE A CRIMINAL.

You don't think that matters?

Religious doctrine is trying to criminalize something. Religious doctrine doesn't belong in secular law. Once religious doctrine is legislated, I >>AM<< being imposed upon by something that, according to the CONSTITUTION, shouldn't be entangled with the state.

I am being forced to adhere to behavioral standards from a religion. Even if it IS my religion, it's still not right. If I decide to go against my religion or if I'm ANYONE ELSE and don't live my life according to this certain religion, I am, to repeat myself, being FORCED to adhere to the standards of a RELIGIOUS DOCTRINE.

Dogma has no place in our laws. That's WHY church is supposed to remain unentangled with state.

No one is saying that your views aren't valid, but if you are going to express your views to someone then you need to afford the other person the same opportunity. That statement is usually said to someone that is only trying to get you to convert and will not hear anything you have to say on the subject.

I don't mind if someone wants to share what they believe with me. There have been a few times when this has been an enlightening, and enjoyable experience. There have been times when I have explored what someone has said on my own, and have made choices/decisions/plans based on what I have come up with.

This is when spirituality/religion is shared in the spirit of dialogue, or conversation.

When someone's approach is one of "I know The Truth and you are going to fry in hell for all eternity if you don't accept the love of God that is being offered completely free with no strings attached and you are full of the devil if you don't agree with me" then this is imposition. We see this in subtle forms and not-so-subtle forms every day. I would say the grandest and most wrong-headed version of this is the US taking 'freedom and democracy' to Iraq. In the name of Jesus. Because, you know, George W. Bush was put into office by God, and he is The Decider.

Tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars are being spent (not to mention squandered, lost and wasted) on this immoral and illogical war built on lies, misunderstanding and hubris.

How is that for a concrete example?

I would rather not have the blood of thousands of Iraqi civilians on my hands. I voted against The Monkey in 2000, and I voted against him again in 2004. And yet, this 'Christian' president has been pushed forward by this insane idea that God wants the world to look like America.

No it is more like saying I don't give a flying (phonetic alphabet) foxtrot, uniform, charlie, kilo.

It doesn't matter what kind of a sales person gets in my face.

You could try giving out hundred dollar bills. A good place to start is Washington, DC - Southeast!

People have a right to choose whether they want to be preached to or not. If they want to be preached to, they go to church or whatever, but if not, they have every right not to have someone in their face, determined to change their beliefs. That having been said, those with religious beliefs should not feel that they have to conceal them, either -- like being afraid to wear a cross at work. The best witness of one's faith is the life one lives, not what one says -- at least that's my opinion -- but if someone's faith is important to them, that should simply be a part of them that you respect -- as long as they're not trying to get you to adopt their beliefs.

All religions are intended to teach us love and compassion for everyone. Unfortunately, around 5 to 10% of believers think that God would ask you to hate anyone, unless they join to their church. 90 to 95 % of all Christians are wonderful people. They honestly want to praise the God, and thank and adore him for who he is. I have been noticing that small percentage of them without realizing, they serve the Devil. They developed a demonic system to spread hatred from one soul to another. They are capable of turning son's against their father, wife's against their husband, and they take a great pride, when they successfully recruit impostors and liars to agree to hate you.
Biggest problem is that they are very aggressive, and make you feel you are against God, unless you obey them.
All we can do is, when we recognize them, stay away from them. Just remember that God gave you a human brain capable of making decisions, and separate evil from goodness, right from wrong. If He wanted us to follow a Shepard blindly, He would give us the brain of a lamb and spare us the responsibilities of a human being.
God does not need us, but we need him,so let us come to Him,
not be pushed toward him.
