I would say if it's possible to have a really smart dog then it should also be possible to have a dog that rides the short bus..... I once had a cat that I'm pretty sure was gay, but that's a whole different story.

Yes. My choc. lab/rotti mix dog Charlie when he was a pup he owuld pick his dish up, it would cover his face and then he owuld run into the porch. Well actually he does it now and hes like 7 months old. He's so clumsy also he would trip over a line on a sidewalk ifit was possible. When hes walking over your feet u can lift it and hell trip over them and do a nose dive right into the floor... and dont worry for all u animal cruelty peopel it doesn't hurt him. ANd when your lying on the floor and he goes to step over u he'll trp even if u didn't move. Got lots mroe stories of Charlie!! So my final answer... yes u can have a retarded dog!

Is this a puppy you're referring to? They can sure seem retarded (much like some teenagers can). They generally grow out of it (unlike some teenagers...).

But, yes, you can find a dog now & then that isn't the brightest crayon in the box. I guess you can love them just the same, though. Patience helps.

Good luck.

Yep, stop kicking him so much.

Seriously though, I have one who was poisoned with flea spray when he was tiny. Poor guy was frothing at the mouth and about to have a seizure when my wife found him. She worked with the lady who did it and took the little guy and bathed him and nursed him back to health. He's still really slow, but a nice guy. He'll never keep up with other dogs mentally, but at least he's happy and healthy now.

Yes it is. He could have been deprived of oxygen before or during birth or he may have had a head injury after he was born.
That dog needs lots of love.

Yes, I have known several!
Unfortunately, many purebred dogs are dumb as dirt because they have been bred for beauty instead of brains.
Mixed breeds are generally much smarter, but they can be really stupid too.

Aren't they all retarded?

Yep. But with a great deal of patience and a whole lot of love, it won't matter much... Check with your vet if you have concerns...they see it all....
