YES!!!
Just be sure to get up at a reasonable time to put them out to potty.
Put a nice warm blanket and a chew toy in the crate with your puppy and it should be fine.

This is the MOST essential part of crate training. The fact that the puppy sleeps in the crate is what makes it home, and somewhere not to potty. You may have to make trips outside during the night at first, but the crate is where the puppy belongs.

Do you HAVE to - no. Is it a good idea to contain the puppy in some manner so they don't have an accident - yes. I train all my puppies to make it through the night by tethering them to something by my side of the bed. I have actually found that this works faster than crating them.

I hook them to a cheap (in case they decide to chew on it) lead about 3-4 feet long, depending on the size of the dog. I usually hook the end of the lead around the leg of my headboard. I put the dog's bed in that area, so that the tether keeps them on the bed. If I hear the puppy get up AT ALL during the night, I take them outside. In the beginning, you are best off carrying them outside. Puppies don't have much bladder control, so by the time they make it to the door, they'll have an accident (even if they dribble - it is bad). Yes, in the beginning this may be 3-4 times a night. I praise the puppy heavily if they go outside (but not enough to get them excited - because I do want to go back to sleep!).

I believe that when puppies are put to sleep in a crate at night, people have a tendency to let them make a little noise before taking them outside - hoping that they will go back to sleep. My dogs sleep through the night, without getting up and wandering around like some dogs do. That first or two of nights are long - but they pay off in the long run. Good luck!

Yes, a dog that is crate trained makes it easier on everyone, including the puppy..He may whine a few nights, but will settle down..When he gets used to it, he will be anxious to go to bed there at night. they feel safe in it.

yes. this way they will not wonder around the house leaving a mess at night. crate training at night also tells them that this is quiet time and a safe place for you.

Yes of course. other wise it wouldnt really do anything...dogs must learn not to go during the night. just make sure it has plenty of food and water and warmth during the day/ nightime. try to keep the dog in there about as much as possible with often potty breaks and playtimes. if your dog whines put him outside. then itll learn that if it needs to go to start whining. but if it whines and you dont respond and it goes inside the crate. do not scold or whip. it was then YOUR fault it went because YOU didnt let it out when it said it had to go. good luck

Yes or else they will chew up your house and mess everywhere and you will wake up to total destruction. Dogs are denning creatures in the wild, and that will become the dogs safe haven if used consistantly. Don't just use it for discipline or he will hate it.
