Because the pitching staff is only average, and history shows the Cubs can't win the big one.

Its very easy. The Cubs have had good teams in the past, but no World Series. The Cubs spent a lot of money this winter, and I dont think anything less than a World Series title would be acceptable. Unfortunately, I think there are too many things against them. Kerry Wood hurting himself getting out of a hot tub. Zambrano cant pitch 162 games. Marquis can't keep the ball in the park (There is a reason the Cardinals kept him off of their postseason roster. Couldn't have won it with him!)

I think they will do at least decent this season. They have a much better bull pen. They added a little more pop in their line up. Now if they need a big left handed bat in the middle of their line up they can bring in Cliff Floyd. If Mark Prior can stay healthy they should have a decent starting rotation. And I think Lou Pinella can keep the ship on course. They should get rid of Jaque Jones and they should name a closer. Closer by committee never works. You shouldn't expect miracles but I believe they will be better than decent.

Well lets start with the Weather in April and May up there in Chi-Town that has a lot to do with them playing bad.Sure they have got some players this year,a very good manager but it takes a couple of years for a team to gel together.Egos get in the way in the clubhouse.
But I believe they will do Decent but not a Div. Title or Wild Card this year ,maybe 08

The Cubs will do great if they can avoid the injury bug. That's the #1 thing. They have the talent, they just need to stay healthy.

It depends on if they can avoid the injury bug. I think they would have had a decent year last, if not for all the injuries. They lost Wood, Prior and Derrick Lee for significant amounts of time.

you can say it because the only thing any of their pitchers besides zambrano have proved is that they can get hurt, and because they have a lot of old/overrated players such as cliff floyd and alfonso soriano...plus, they're the cubs
