Next week I am going to go to the dentist to have my wisdom teeth removed and am going to be given sleeping gas. I think its a shot and then some gas...not sure..anyway...I'm really nervous, anyone ever had this done, and what can you tell me about it? Being put to sleep scares me..so..yeah..what can you tell me about this. Thanks.

Yes ive had my wisdom teeth pulled, and did not recieve sleeping gas, instead got two shots in the gum of some sort of painkiller. To put it bluntly it hurt like a bi*** but u should be happy to be put under u wont feel a thing. I was put under when i had surgery on my hand its pretty fun actually theyll give a shot/gas and tell you to cant down from 10 and by the time you get to 4 or so you knocked out, and dont realize a thing but when you wake up you'll be in a lil pain ask for painkillers when ur done there lifesavers when the pain hits in the middle of the nite, if u dont believe you'll findout soon enough, but anyways good luck aint no biggie at all

I think what you are talking about is called "laughing gas" and yes I have had it before. You get the shots to deaden the areas of where the teeth will be removed and the gas relaxes you but you are not totally asleep, you just don't care. You will need someone to give you a ride home after because it stays in the blood stream for several hours.

Sleeping gas?No such thing. I work for an oral surgeon and we put people to sleep all the time. maybe you're thinking of "laughing gas"? Also known as N20. This gas gives people a range of emotions ranging from sleepiness to drowsiness to feeling like you just drank a six pack, or just feeling giggly(hence the nickname "laughing gas"). Either way, it DOESN'T put you to sleep. If you're having laughing gas and novocaine then, you'll be fine. The thing with the gas is that you're awake but don't really care as much about your surroundings. Some patients say they feel like they're floating.
Now, if you're going to sleep for sure, then, they'll probably give you some N20 just before they start the I.V. in your arm, so you don't mind the needle so much.
Well, whichever way you're going, there's no need to be scared. You'll do just fine.

I was given gas during a gum cut-down (in preparation for a crown), and it wasn't bad at all. The doctor put in an I.V., and I felt no pain whatsoever, even though I could hear and respond to his questions (how are you feeling? Are you comfortable?) Just try to relax and put yourself in your dentist's care -- what I liked about it was I can't remember anything about the entire day - a friend dropped me off and picked me up because hubby was deployed. She got me home and I remember waking up on the couch later that evening!

You'll do fine!

I wish you well and a speedy recovery!

Ask him to not do this then . A "local" anesthetic be enough for wisdom teeth removal ! A local=not being sedated by laughing gas. Yes laughing gas can be dangerous. Ask him for a super potent local & refuse the nitrous laughing gas or whatever the gas be used these days.

i had all 4 of my teeth cut out and they gave me a small i.v. and medicine to make me go to sleep. when u wake up u wont be in pain but when the anesthesia wears off u will be in a lot of pain for like 2 weeks. u will need to eat soft for and no using straws until the doctor says its ok. Good luck

you mean, laughing gas, don't you? and don't worry, you probably won't be put to sleep. i've got a story to tell u.a few months ago i was about to get my bicuspids extracted. i was VERY nervous when i woke up that morning. and it only got worse while we were driving up to the dentist. when we finally got there, the nurse took me back and gave me some laughing gas.it felt like i was floating! they told me that i was going to get a shot, but if they had'nt had told me, i would'nt have even known that i had gotten it. i was just about to go to sleep when they said,"okay, your done!" and after that i went home, watched tv, and took two naps(laughing gas makes you VERY sleepy.) the end.

I have had it done alot don't worry it will seem that they just put you out and they are waking you up. and I asked your done already. because it felt like they just put me under. but have someone there with you so you can get home, because you won't be able to drive. and plus they won't let you leave and drive your self. I had all my top teeth pulled and dentures put in right away.

Most likely they are going to give you Nitrous Oxide. No, its not the same kind of NoS from Fast & Furious, its a medically safe variety.

I wouldnt be worried. I've had it done to me before, its no big deal. If you really are worried that much, just take plenty of deep breaths before hand, it'll help to relax you somewhat. Hey, just be happy its not Zyklon B, OUCH!!!!

Just hope to God that the dentist doesn't give you any "special treatment." TEABAG, need I say more?
