I just really cannot accept the notion that a human being who made the sacrifices he did would be damned. If a person has great love, compassion and serves fellow human beings so as to decrease suffering, then why would they suffer such a fate? I mean, what the hell? Literally.

Yep, one of the ironies of Christianity is that Hitler goes to heaven because he truly believed in God and Christ and felt he was doing God's work, therefore he will be forgiven. Gandhi goes to Hell because he was a non-believer.

Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned

John 14:16 Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me"

Ultimately, it's up to God as to who is going to hell or not. But it sure doesn't look like Ghandi did what God wanted of him, at least according to the bible. Sure he did a lot of good things and made sacrifices, but the bible is full of examples of people who did good things but didn't do what God commanded and they were punished or even sometimes struck dead for that reason. I think these examples are in the bible for a reason. Perhaps to serve as a warning to us all.

1 Samuel 15:22 Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice.

If you buy into the whole compost heap that is biblical theology then Gandhi is burnt toast. Fortunately for Gandhi, there is no god and there is no hell to burn him. Or heaven either. Or reincarnation. The idea of life after death is backwards. The correct order is death after life.

Only the Christians think Gandhi would go to hell. It's an absurd idea, really.

What kind of god would send Gandhi to hell?

Everyone is doomed to the upcoming, second annual, fire-foom apocalypse. Tomorrow's forecast calls for limb disfigurement and burnt flesh.

Regarding Gandi's eternal fate; that is God's call not mine currently. (1 Samuel 16:7).

You don't understand we are not saved by good works, we are saved by grace. If you reject Jesus, then you go to Hell. Ghandi had the opportunity to accept Jesus, if he rejected Him, then he made his own choice.
