We have 7 kids between us. Rule of thumb at our house is birth to 2nd grade bedtime is at 8 pm. In 3rd grade you go til 9pm. Only way to stay up later than that at our house is to still be doing homework or get to high school. The change then is to 11pm. Funny thing is they start even earlier in the morning and pass out at 8pm with the young ones.

My 7 year old starts bedtime at 8:00 she takes a bath untill around 8:30 is in her bed by 8:45 and she is aloud to either read with a lamp or watch a little TV to calm her down for the night but all lights and tvs off by 9:30. This has worked great for the both of us.

kids really need down time. sleep releases the growth hormone and is extremely important in the next days concentration, focus and learning abilities. my kids age 9, 12, 14 go to bed at 7:30, 8:00 and 9:30 - 10:00 to get up between 7 and 7:30. they are A students and have a positive outlook on life. eating healthy is the next most important thing for kids to grow and learn. don't ever think you're putting them to bed too early. if you put them to bed at 7:30 or 8:00, after a few days, their bodies will become accustom to it and you'll see some positive improvements (if they're currently going to bed later) they will also wake on their own in the morning instead of having to rely on alarm clocks or parents. early bedtime is a great gift you can give your kids to help start them in life.

6 and 8 year old go to bed at 8pm, wake at 6am for school. if they are more tired than usual it's 7:30pm bedtime. IN the summer it usually creeps up to 9pm but we wake around 7am. What really works well is having them get ready for bed at 7:30pm and 'reading' in bed quietly till 8.

I used to send my 9 yr old to bed at 8 p.m. but now I allow her to stay up until 9:30 p.m. She doesn't have any trouble getting up (she is usually a hard person to wake). Also she doesn't seem to be tired the next day.

If you put them to bed at 8:30pm. They would get around 10 hours of sleep. That should work out pretty good. The problem is if you were to set a bed time of 11:00pm, you would never be able to go earlier as they get older.

between 8;30-9 I would have them in bed with a book reading or listening to music to wind down, then 9pm or so lights up go to sleep
however I put my kids both at 8;30pm age 9 and 12,
the 12 yr old has to be up for school by 6am
the 9yr old has to be up by 7am
however She will be getting up same time as the 12yr old this fall
