I have a p o box ..but check went to physical address if the check was returned to state IRS how long will it take to get the check back. what is it that I need to do once I have updated the information with them..How long does it take once allof this is done?

Contact your state Department of Revenue or Department of Taxation. Some states use each term. Tell them what happened and ask how to proceed. Even if the check was not returned to them, they may be able to void it and issue a replacement.

I sure hope the check was returned to the state treasury. Once you updated your information with the state, you're at the mercy of the state as to when to expect your refund check.

It's a long-drawn-out process because they will have to verify that the first check did indeed come back and is not still out there, and then issue a second one, then have the post office deliver it...

I'd figure on at least a month, and then if I still hadn't heard anything, get back in touch with them.
