I've been sick for 2 weeks with a cold/flu type thing. I though i was getting better but this morning i woke up with a HORRIBLE sore throat- couldnt swallow at all. i'm running a low fever 101.7 and my nose and chest are congested. sore throat/ cold or strep? HELPHELPHELPHELP

Do you have little white "sacs" on the back of your throat (tonsils?)
When it is strep your throat has "pus" on it, not just the pain.
Sounds to me like you have bronchitis, either way you should go see a doc to make sure.
In the meantime take tylenol or advil for pain/fever and gargle with warm salt water (about 1 tsp salt per 8 oz water) for the pain. Drink lots of water and get lots of sleep.

look in the mirror and stick out your tongue. are there white spots on your tongue and on your tonsils at the back of your throat? if there are, those are a key indication of strep. have you been to a doctor? you should go immediately if your fever doesn't go away.
on top of what your doctor suggests, i suggest drinking lots and lots of fluids (get some gatorade), hot tea with lemon and honey, plenty of rest and Vick's Vap-O-Rub on your throat, chest, under your nose and on the sides of it, and behind your ears. it smells and it feels funky, but it will bring relief. be sure to see a doctor if the fever persists and if you see white spots on your tongue/tonsils!!!

Hm...sounds like strep. Drink lots of fluids and keep on taking medicine, if you haven't. If it gets worse, go to the doctor.

IF ITS STREP, YOULL HAVE TO GET A SHOT FROM THE DOCTOR
