I currently have a 96 Contour, and this is the worst car I have ever owned.. The dealership where I bought said they will swap it out for me with a 96 Dodge Intrepid.. Im thinking about, but wondering if there decent cars, and if anyone could add any input.. Thanks in advance..

It is a straight switch out.. I may have to pay the tax, and title, but that is all... The Contour is a 96 w/90,000 miles on it, but I have stuck a lot of money in it already. I've only had it a month... I would never recommend a Contour to anyone.. Now the Intrepid is the same year, but with 86,000 miles.. I was just curious if there decent cars.. I see a lot of em on the road, so they cant be to bad... Thanks again...

have the transmission checked out on the intrepid , that is their weak point , also see if it has the 3.3L engine , that is the best one , my wife has one with 225K kilometres ( about 125K miles ) and it is going strong , switch it to synthetic oil , put a transmission cooler on it (with valving to allow only the factory one to operate in the winter) and life will be good.

well contours are generally decent little cars..sooo that car lot is probably selling faulty cars. you should quit dealing with them entirely. BUT if you're not going to go for that plan..i would stick with the contour if an intrepid is your only other option. I've had 3 intrepids. two 1996 and a 2000. the steering went out on all three of them.

The mid 90s dodges are riddled with electrical problems. Dodge in general is a good company, and the engines are solid, but be very careful with the electrical system. Contour's are very reliable cars, their timing belts are usually an issue at around 100k, but that is normal amongst these new four cylinders. I would say stick it out with the contour.

Best of Luck!

The transmission on my dodge went out at 70000 miles. I don't think I'm buying a dodge again.

If you swap, see if a new transmission has been put in, if not, you'll be replacing it VERY soon I imagine!

If it has the 2.7 engine, stay away. It's a problem child.
