What you are having done is scaling and root planing because you have tarter beneath the gums and have some form of periodontal disease. No not all mouthwashes are considered antimicrobial. Some such as scope are not, but Listerine is strong enough to kill some bacteria. We have patients that have had scaling and root planing done use a prescription mouthrinse called Peridex. It is however about fifteen dollars for the generic version. I am guessing that your dentist may want to place some type of antibiotic below the gumline such as Atridox or Arrestin. This can be expensive. I would go ahead with the deep cleanings, increase your dental homecare (brushing, flossing everyday), have your periodontal status checked in four to six weeks and then if it is not better try the other suggestions. Again dentist are not always scammers. When you educate yourself about the treatment than you can better understand why it was rec'd in the first place.

Any mouthwash is considered to be a microbial wash, have them perform a general clean up, tartar removal if any, and have topical fluoride applied every 6 months as required by any dentist.
Once the cleaning is done, have the dentist evaluate how many cavities and how much time it would take to have the work done, who cares about how much? the insurance covers it.
You have to sound as if you know what you are talking about, in other words : defend yourself at all times.
$250.00 scam, not everybody can pull that one.
Good luck!

I would be going to another dentist for an evaluation. You could have gingivitis and that requires a deep cleaning but I have never heard of a microbial wash. There should be a local dental organization that can answer your questions, if not a local medical association.

I would suggest not getting the microbial wash. There are many eaiser ways to clean your teeth without paying a fortune. I have never come across microbial wash, but I know it would be a risk to take it because things might not ALWAYS work for everyone.

i'm able to basically talk / recommend from own journey. the way i seem at it, animal dental paintings is yet in a diverse way for vets to make funds off of ignorant puppy proprietors. If this 15 year previous cat have been interior the wild do you think of that they had be working to the dentist? infrequently. I had a cat that lived to 18 and died with a mouth crammed with captivating, sharp tooth. I basically had her to the vet as quickly as after she became 8, and the diagnosis there became into completely healthful, yet reasonable physique of recommendations concern I had yet another cat, a stray, so rather age unknown. i offered into the dental concept and had her tooth wiped sparkling. She did no longer die from the anesthesia, yet did die from infections presently thereafter. relatively, i've got had 2 cats that i are turning out to be dental paintings performed on that died presently after. So, long tale short, i'm going to in no way take yet another cat for dental paintings.

I have been a dental assistant for 7 yrs and have never heard of that. The only thing I can think about that they are talking about is a STM, a deeper type of cleaning.

That sounds like preventative denistry to me. That is a good habit to get into if you can afford it.
