Feed her a big spoonful of butter. It's a great mover of things lodged in the throat, like hairballs and bits of stuffed animals. Give her a big glob every hour til it passes. If she's still coughing in the morning take her to the vet for an x-ray to make sure it's not a needle or a bone stuck down there.

Hi! I doubt it's a chill...but it could be something in her throat, or it could be an allergy.
I'd check her airway first...maybe feed her a few pieces of bread to sort of "push" a small whatever on down. Or, if she ate something that may have sctrached her throat, that could cause irritation thus the coughing. For instance, never feed a dog chicken bones (cooked birds' bones are splintery, as opposed to birds they may catch & eat outside, whose bones are pliable and usually not a danger to intestine & throat linings).
Is she eating/drinking all right? I would think if she's eating o.k., she isn't too bad off. But I'd keep an eye on her, anyway.
If she gets more "mopey" or stops eating, you should get her to a vet. Dogs can eat things you never think they would, and it can cause problems.
I knew of a Doberman that ate a 4' length of rope once..of course it had to be surgically removed. It was o.k., but some weeks later on, the dog ate a handi-wipe and died from it.
Don't want to scare you..just let you know they can eat wierd things. Large breeds are especially bad about this.
Also, dogs can get "kennel cough". It has nothing really to do with dogs being kenneled, but it's a dry, hackey cough, and is very contagious. They can be treated for this.
Hope this helps...good luck!

The park may have a lot to do with her cough. Dogs can have allergies just like we do. Call your Vet...he may suggest some meds or try not to take her back to the park for a while and see if she improves. If she doesn't I would definitely take her to see the doc. It could also be kennel cough. It's not serious but she should see the vet. Good luck, I hope she gets better.

A dog cannot catch a cold or cough from a human. If the dog is coughing, it can be any number of reasons from kennel cough to pneumonia to heartworms Have your friend call the vet, and DO NOT USE VICKS. NEVER give a dog a human medication without first consulting a veterinarian.. Many human medications can do severe harm or killl your your pet.

It could be an upper respiratory infection. If it's a URI she may need some antibiotics. However, try not to put off treatment for too long because a URI that is easily treated can turn into something a little scary, such as pneumonia, if you wait too long.
It could also be a number of other things, like a collapsing trachea. Your vet will hopefully be able to help you with this.
As long as she's doing okay other wise (No vomiting/diarrhea/she is eating & drinking/she is able to breathe okay) it's probably not an emergency. Just take her in today or tomorrow.

There are all kinds of reasons. Maybe it was something she ate. Maybe she has allergies (my dog does). If she hasn't had her shots updated she could've picked up kennel cough somewhere. Some may say it's the wrong thing to do but when my dogs cough or are mopey I press lightly around their tummy to see if they cry or anything. It helps me to see if maybe it's a tummy ache or something else. I would say to continue to observe her through tonight and if you notice things getting worse, take her to the vet. Write things down as you notice them. They'll come in handy if you do end up going to the vet. Good luck and I hope she feels better!

It may be the kennel cough. Just take her to the vet and she will be all rite. It is not as seriuos as it may sound! But you should deffinitly take her to the vet. If left untreated it may get worse and eventually become unbareble, but most dogs can get over it eaisly with a little help from medication.

Coughing from a dog is often a sign of upper respiratory infection. I suggest you take her to the vet today.

Rub on his neck, under his chin, (trachea mainly) and if you can get him to cough, then it is probably bordetella and needs meds. The only other thing I can suggest, is that (if she is eating and drinking and doesn't have any diarrhea or isn't vomiting) to give it a couple days and then take her to the vet if it doesn't clear up.
