Perhaps because people who worship God are just plain happier people. He should be worshipped because He provides for all our needs, which most people take for granted, the air you breathe, the water you drink. The fact that He designed such a wonderful thing called our bodies, think of the human eye, how complex is that organ. Besides He loves us and sent His Son to die for us so you can go to Heaven. The list could go on.

People keep asking the same questions on here over & over again.
As for worship, why would God bother creating us if he got nothing back out of the deal? What is wrong for God to ask for something in return for giving you the gift of existence?
As for evidence, there is enough circumstantial evidence that people who actually like God WILL believe in him, but people who don't like God will not. If God simply boomed out of the sky, "believe in me or go to Hell", then it would be a little coercive, and would effectively eliminate free will.
Love is not truly love unless it is freely offered.

You kind of answered your own question. First you asked why he would need to be worshipped. Then, you say, if he did not want it.
Well, god is independent doesn't need anyone or anything. But humans are dependant on God and have to worship God because God created them. There are plenty of signs of God's existence all around you. It is upto you to see them or not.
