All it takes to make a difference is simply getting involved. I used to think one person couldn't make that much of an impact, but when you put your mind to it, you really can make a huge difference just by starting small.

I suggest starting to volunteer in your local community. When I started, I was doing a couple of tutoring projects and park cleanups. But after a while, I began to get more involved in different volunteer programs through my volunteer center.

Here are some links to find your center:

In order to move a mountain, you have to pick up that first rock. So you might want to check out some different volunteer projects that match your interest, and see what you can do to make a difference on issues that are important to you. Your volunteer center can also match you with a non-profit agency that matches your beliefs and values for one-time, short-term, and long-term projects.

Good luck!

Buy lots of private property, and NEVER sale it. Stop eating fish, animals, and anything else that is messing up food chains. When you buy something made of wood, make sure the wood does not come from the rainforest. Of course drive a hybred. Rycycle. Pick trash and stuff up off the street that could polute water (such as oil cartons). buy products that are biodegradable (detergents, pestisides). so things to help slow down soil erosion by planting grass. when you get done with like an apple or an orange or anything else the decomposers in the soil can sure to supply nutrients to plants etc.. throw it in your yard instead of the trash.

I won't throw litter out my car window, it's like driving in a rolling garbage heap ( hey, my garbage is not in front of YOUR house), I'm also almost constantly getting run over by cars because, I often stop to help out an injured animal on the road, you can take them to ANY vet, they won't charge you for a hurt animal found on the road. I do volunteer work with the USCG, my wife is always yelling at me for running out with them, then I say "How would you like to be the person that is calling for help out there alone", as I close the door, and grab my life vest.

Do a good deed daily. There is always an opportunity to help someone out, especially the elderly. Put time into developing a relationship with someone who is alone in the world. Take time for a random act of kindness. Say thank you when it is least expected.

somehow make global and cultural awareness a required class in all schools of higher and elementary education. the predjudice people have makes it harder to make any changes and putting the awareness in the faces of everyone who's lucky enough to go to school will reach at least one or two people who will in turn do something to heal the world. the trick is to make it an on-going process. when one problem goes away, another pops up and when one thing starts to change, there will always be a group of people trying to keep things the same or opressed.

What one can do to make a difference on this earth is all about the decision one make, For one to make a difference is all about you knowing what you can do, doing what you know you can do better, try to be a good model, kick against every evil around, make people believe in what life is all about, sow good seed into the life people, be responsible, stand on your integrity, appreciate people, learn new things everyday of your life.

you already gave the best answers to your own question. Recycle, bicycle, and most importantly you care. Good start. I am only one, but each one can make a difference.

Be yourself and keep it simple. I always put my cigarette filters back into the pack so I know they don't end up on the ground somewhere. You can also try and get into gardening. I find that very rewarding. Especially when you get to eat vegetables you grew yourself. They taste better, are better for you and it's really just a good idea. And always remember: No matter how bad things can seem to be, you are in charge of keeping your cup half full.
