I have really thick/coarse/wavy hair. It is dark brown. I always straighten it to make it look thinner. My hair is WAY to thick for me. Do you have any tips instead of always straightening it? withiut getting layers?

I have a friend with the exact hair type. We took a trip to an Aveda Institute beauty school and had them thin in out using thinning sheers. They're hair scissors created especially for what you need. Explain that you'd like it thinned out, but not too much. This way straightening your hair will take less time and styling it wavy won't seem an impossible task. Layers will only make you're hair more unruly. Hope this helps :)

Play up what you have. You have thick hair and its wavy at that, which I think is amazing! Deep condition your hair at least 2-3 times a week. Sun silk is very good as well at therma silk. Then put some hair products in it, to keep it under control. Now on which hair products, it depends on what mood you are in. If you want lots of volume them of course use something for volume and if you want curly, use a curly hair product. Use anything by Paul Mitchell HE IS THE BEST!! Get his shine serum for straightening your hair and even blow drying. It helps protect your hair from the heat and doesn't make feel as coarse. Good luck

I have thick wavy hair also. It was below my waist and I stayed very hot all the time and hated the waves. I finally decided to cut it off. I started out with a long shag type haircut with sideburns. I have since cut the length off and when I get out of the shower now all I have to do is kind scrunch it up with my fingers. You can go to a beauty supply store a buy a pair of thinning shears also.

Go to a salon and get your hair thinned. What they do is take out the extra bulk by starting at the bottom half of your hair and twisting strands then cut pieces with a razor to remove excess hair. I get this done all the time. I hate layer too, but this is completely different. You'll love it.

i got my hair chemically straightened. it should last about a year. i have very thick and coarse hair also, that's why i did it. i don't mess around w/ my hair as much so it didn't damage my hair at all. now my hair looks very thin and i never have to straighten it for the rest of the year.

negatives: the hair treatment is super expensive.

try going to a reliable salon, like Nirvana hair gallery, and get it thinned and styled for about 30 dollars. you'll be very pleased with the results, because if your hair is really thick, then thinning it won't make it look too thinned out.

I have the same problem and I do straighten it a lot but what you also can do is get it thinned that is when they cut a lot of your hair from the scalp you should ask about that

Layers make your hair look fuller - you should try getting it feathered - use a different shampoo and vary from time to time - go to your nearest headmasters and get some good tips (doesn't have to be Headmasters - just the first name that came into my head!)

have a GOOD hairstylist show you what to do and do it in front of her and see what it turns out like. if it turns out the way you want it..buy what you used at the salon. even if you spend a little money on it. it will be worth it in the end.
